Hello, and welcome to my little corner of LiveJournal. :-)

My name is Jamie Lynn Miller, and I'm the professional writing alter ego of [info]agt_spooky

If you'd like to know a little bit about me, here's my bio CLICK )

I'm thrilled to announce that my first step into the publishing world has resulted in two of my male/male contemporary romance novellas, Burnin' for You and Darkness Falls, being picked up by Dark Roast Press.

I was one of just four authors selected to help Dark Roast Press launch their line of GLBT books, which premiered on April 15, 2008.

To whet your appetite a bit, here are the blurbs for both novellas, and click on the link at the end for a longer excerpt.

BURNIN' FOR YOU:

Lucas Taylor is a hard-working New York City fireman at Station 127, dedicated to his job, even though it has brought him heartrending tragedy - the loss of his lover, Ryan, in an explosion a year ago.

Evan Singer is the new guy in town, a paramedic transferred into Station 127 from San Antonio, and he sets his eyes on Lucas from the get-go.

Neither knowing who the other is, their first meeting is explosive, a night of passion and desire that awakens something inside Lucas he never thought he’d feel again.

But when Lucas discovers that Evan is a paramedic, it all comes crashing down. For despite the feelings he has for Evan, Lucas has vowed to never again get involved with someone on the job, after losing Ryan to it.

Can Evan convince Lucas to open up his heart and take a chance on love again, despite who Evan is?

DARKNESS FALLS:

Matthew Tucker is a successful actor on a hit television show, his career on the rise. Life is good. What more could he want?

Daniel Westman, that’s what – his co-star and close friend for the last two years.

Matthew desires more than friendship with Daniel, though, his attraction for the other man growing day by day. So much so that Matthew gives up the safety and security of his current long-term relationship for the slimmest chance of a relationship with Daniel, feeling there’s something between them, just under the surface. And he was gambling his happiness on it.

But months go by, with Matthew suddenly afraid to go forward, to make the first move, to tell Daniel he was falling in love with him. Because if he was wrong, and Daniel was just being his natural charming self and Matthew was looking too deeply into it…he’d lose his best friend.

So instead Matthew longs for his friend in silence, until an accident on set may leave Daniel permanently blinded. With his friend hurt, scared and confused, his life possibly forever altered, Matthew never wavers from Daniel’s side, no matter how difficult it gets.

His dedication brings them closer than ever before , but is it possible to find happiness, and love, in the wake of a tragedy? Or has Matthew’s hesitation cost him that chance and he’ll lose Daniel to the darkness instead?

Matthew Tucker loves his job acting on a hit series.  Unbeknownst to his sexy costar and best friend, Daniel Westman, Matthew also loves Daniel.  He’s been keeping his feelings to himself in order to not ruin their friendship or their working relationship.  Then Daniel is injured on the set.  Matthew moves in with Daniel in order to help him adjust to his blindness, which may or may not be temporary.  Will Daniel’s accident be the end of their friendship, or the start of something more?

Darkness Falls is a simple, cute book with two appealing heroes and a storyline that, while familiar, is still interesting.  I liked that Matthew and Daniel were actors and coworkers, and Matthew’s horror when Daniel was hurt felt genuine.  The friendship between the two men was heartwarming to read.  There was a nice dash of angst due to Matthew’s fear of revealing his feelings to his best friend, as well as because of Daniel’s blindness.  The sexual tension and love scenes were well-written.  I would have liked to have seen things through Daniel’s point of view a few times to get additional depth to the story, but overall Darkness Falls was a pleasant read.  I’ll be interested to see what else Jamie Lynn Miller has written.

Review:

Matthew Tucker, an actor in a popular television series, has been secretly in love with co-star, Daniel Westman, for quite some time.  While the two men have become close friends, Matthew, unsure if his feelings will be reciprocated, has been afraid to express his desires to Daniel.

One night while filming, an accident results in an explosion and a serious injury to Daniel.  His eyes are burned and must be bandaged.  Over the next several days, Matthew diligently and selflessly cares for his friend, staying in Daniel’s home to assist in his recovery.  When the bandages are removed, though, Daniel’s sight has not been restored as predicted.  Once again Matthew agrees to tend to Daniel.  He attempts to help his friend work through his feelings of helplessness and isolation, even though Daniel often rejects Matthew’s efforts at communicating.  Gradually, though, Matthew’s friendship and support influence Daniel, and the affection between the two of them slowly develops into something much more.

Darkness Falls is a poignant and touching story about the power of love and friendship.  Matthew and Daniel are believable and endearing characters in both their strength and their frailty.  Their strategies for coping with the tragedy that has befallen them are very different; Matthew is open and emotional while Daniel is stoic.  The sex scenes between them are some of the best I’ve ever read, both on a physical and an emotional level.  Having read a vast number of M/M romances, I was impressed by the author’s ability to capture and depict rapture and intimacy so beautifully.  She skims over some events that I’d have preferred to see fleshed out, though.  Several weeks of Daniel and Matthew’s lives while Daniel acclimates to his blindness are summarized rather than shown.  Darkness Falls is quite good as a novella length work, but I believe it would have the potential to be brilliant as a full-length novel.  I hope Ms. Miller will revisit the lives of Daniel and Matthew, as I’d be eager to see how their relationship will progress.

Lucas Taylor loves his job as a New York City fireman.  He knows the dangers of the job and the risks that are taken every time he enters a burning building. He knows it all too well, having lost his lover of three years to the job.  On the first anniversary of Ryan’s death, Lucas’ main goal was to drink until he was numb. Sitting in the bar he and Ryan used to frequent, the last thing Lucas intended to do was pick up a guy and go home with him, but meeting Evan stirred feelings Lucas hadn’t felt in a long time.  Lucas found himself wanting Evan more than anything and his one night with Evan made him feel alive again.

Returning to duty a couple of days after his passionate night with Evan, Lucas is surprised to find Evan there and very upset to learn he’s the new paramedic at Station 127.  Vowing to never get involved with anyone else on the job, Lucas makes it known to Evan that what they shared was just sex and it would never happen again.

Burnin’ For You is a pleasing story, even though the storyline is predictable for the most part.  Although, there are a couple of scenes I didn’t see coming that definitely amped up the drama.  The two heroes of the story are very likable and Jamie Lynn Miller does a great job in allowing the reader to feel Lucas’ anguish over losing Ryan and his fear of having to face that type of pain again.  Evan’s strong determination to make Lucas see that they belong together also added dramatic fuel to the story.  I enjoyed Burnin' For You and I’m certain many other readers will as well.

SRR GRADE:  B

When we first meet Matthew he’s on the set with the man he’s secretly in love with, his co-star Daniel. They’re setting up for a stunt which goes horribly wrong and Daniel is blinded. Matthew steps right in to take care of him and from the beginning the reader can feel Matthew’s devotion to Daniel in the way he cares for the other man. When Daniel’s sight doesn’t return as hoped he is angry, upset and frightened but Matthew is there for him even though he’s riding his own rollercoaster of emotions. As Matthew cares for Daniel, he struggles with the sexual attraction, not wanting to take advantage of Daniel and not knowing if his feelings are reciprocated.

In Darkness Falls, Jamie Lynn Miller brings us a wonderful story about longing, devotion and love. The character of Matthew is well written and we can really feel the depth of his caring for Daniel. There are some repetitive words and phrases in the book but nothing that detracts from the story focus. The love scenes between the two are nicely done with a buildup to the finale. I really liked this book and you will too if you like love stories with hot sex and happy ending.

Matthew Tucker is working on a series with his best friend Daniel Westman. When an accidental explosion blinds Daniel he is rushed to the hospital, where Matthew stays with him. When Daniel finds out the blindness might be permanent Matthew who has always been attracted to Daniel stays with him taking care of him.

Daniel turns to Matthew for support and guidance. When the bandages are taken off Daniel still can't see and he retreats into anger. Matthew pulls Daniel out of his anger when he tells Daniel of his love of him. Daniel finds out returns his love. Though will Daniel be able to beat his self-imposed solitude for Matthew or will he fall into depression?

Darkness Falls is a good book with an interesting storyline. There was much emotion throughout. I really enjoyed reading it.

I've just received another review for my ebook, Burnin' for You, from the Whipped Cream site, and I'm thrilled with this one. Not just because it got 4 out of 5 cherries, but because the reviewer brought up something that I was struggling with when writing the story. I was afraid that my technical knowledge of the fire department would overshadow or overpower the actual plot of the story, or the characters. Because I've read many a story where it's extremely obvious that the author has personal knowledge of their subject matter and goes on and on in excruciating detail. So much so that it's actually turned me off and I've stopped reading.

So to have this reviewer be the first to bring this up, that I did a good job balancing both the technical stuff and the character aspects of the story puts a huge smile on my face. :-)

♥ ♥ ♥

I love firefighter stories, so I had high hopes for Burnin’ For You. Luckily, it didn’t disappoint. Ms. Miller
writes both the technical stuff the characters have to do as part of their jobs and the heartwrenching
emotions they feel as the relationship between Lucas and Evan develops equally well. If the balance
between those two story elements was weighted on one side or the other, the story as a whole would
have been greatly diminished.

At the beginning of the story, Lucas is dealing with the anniversary of his lover’s death. In his emotionally
ragged state, he meets Evan and decides to spend the night with him, thinking that it might ease his
loneliness. At least for a little while. They form a bond – a little nugget of something more than just the
physical. But Lucas’ fears are a huge obstacle to a relationship. This plot line has been used a lot in
traditional romance in the past, but Miller freshens it up by exploring it with a homosexual pair.

Lucas and Evan’s co-workers are all really understanding – they give the couple both emotional and
physical space – I think it might have been more realistic, though, had at least one person had not
been comfortable with the idea of the two of them together. Gay couples have to deal with that all the time.
I feel that there may have been a missed opportunity for more conflict there. Especially since, at times,
it seems as though some of the existing conflict could have been resolved with a simple heart-to-heart
conversation.

Miller hits a home run with the tension and action at the end, though. It’s difficult to describe without
spoilers, but the emotional and technical balance as well as the quick pace keeps you flipping the
pages until the resolution.

I would recommend Burnin’ for You to fans of firefighter romance, GLBT fiction, and erotic romantic
suspense.

Burning For You by Jamie Lynn Miller

Lucas Taylor is a hard-working New York City fireman at Station 127, dedicated to his job, even though it has brought him heartrending tragedy - the loss of his lover, Ryan, in an explosion a year ago.

Evan Singer is the new guy in town, a paramedic transferred into Station 127 from San Antonio, and he sets his eyes on Lucas from the get-go.

Can Evan convince Lucas to open up his heart and take a chance on love again, despite who Evan is?

Review:

Lucas is in a bar one Saturday night, drinking heavily when Evan, a hot, hunky guy gives him the eye. In an effort to stave off the depression he has felt since the death of his lover Ryan, Lucas goes home with Evan. After a night of scorching sex, Lucas, tormented over the feeling that he has cheated on his dead lover, vows never to see Evan again...except there is something there between these two men and the next day, Lucas calls Evan. Both Texan born, the two men chat easily, recognizing many similarities in upbringing and outlooks on life.

Evan agrees to take things slow since it's obvious that Lucas is recovering from the loss of his lover.
Lucas's new shot at love however quickly crashes and burns on his first day back at work as a New York fireman. He is introduced to Station 127's new paramedic...Evan. Lucas dumps Evan immediately, telling him they cannot be together. Ryan was a fireman and his death on the job continues to haunt Lucas. He will not allow himself to love again...or can Evan prove that sometimes love on the job is just what a hungry heart requires?

Jamie Lynn Miller blends blistering M/M sex scenes with a truly tender love story that is emotional and real. The firehouse scenes and three action-packed, edge of your seat incidents Station 127 handles are just amazing. Miller writes these scenes as deftly as she does the often emotionally bruising love scenes in which Lucas struggles with the idea opening his heart once again.

Considering that all this is stuffed into sixty pages is staggering. Lucas and Evan come across as wonderful men and the interaction with the secondary characters is convincing and compelling.
This reviewer is burning for the next Jamie Lynn Miller book.

Burnin' for You

A chance meeting throws two firefighters together, and they give in to passion. Lucas is still mourning his lover's death, and he thinks his night with Evan is just stress relief. But when they find out they have to work closely in the fire station, they can't deny their true feelings.

First of all, firemen are hot (excuse the pun). Gay firemen? Even hotter. So I was looking forward to reading this one, and the author didn't disappoint. Hot sex, unwilling emotions, angst, adventure…Burning for You has it all. It's short, but long enough for plenty of action and back-story, and the men come to life. The writing is near perfect as well and I can't wait to read more from Jamie Lynn Miller.

Burnin’ for You is a short little flamer – hot and steamy in more ways than one! Jamie Lynn Miller introduces us to Lucas Taylor, a firefighter who two years ago lost his true love and since then has pulled back into himself – afraid to let anyone in again.

On the two year anniversary of his lover’s death Lucas looks across the room into a set of new eyes, eyes he can’t seem to resist. Not sure whether it’s the drink or just the intense need to feel someone’s arms around him he goes home with Evan, the stranger from across the room.

Burnin’ For You is the story of how the love of one man can conquer the hurt and heal the deep wounds of another. The characters are charming, Lucus is definitely the gruff and tough firefighter, and Evan shows an amazing amount of compassion for a younger man. I really enjoyed this story which shows you that life and love are worth taking chances for.

I have some very exciting news!

As of today, my m/m romance ebook, Burnin' for You, has found a new publisher and is once again available for purchase. :-)

After Aphrodite's Apples went out of business, my friend and contact at AA, [info]rhiannon_rhodes, decided to branch out on her own and start her own publishing company, and she asked me if she could publish Burnin' for You.

I'm thrilled to be a part of Dark Roast Press's launch, along with three other talented authors.

Disappointing news

Jamie Lynn
I'm sad to report that as of tonight, my debut into professional publishing has come to an abrupt end.

Aphrodite's Apples has closed it's website and gone out of business.

After being on sale for just a few days, my book, Burnin' for You, is no longer available.  I want to thank each and every one of you who did purchase it and I really hope you enjoy it.

It's disappointing beyond belief for me that this has happened. I'd been looking forward to my debut for months and my second book was going to be published in just a few weeks.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do, where I'm going to go from here. The rights to both books are being given back to me, so I can shop them elsewhere, but...now I'm kinda feeling gunshy. Not sure if I want to make the effort again, start all over again, or just say 'hey, it was an experiment'. Something I've gotta think about.

Thanks again, guys, for all of your support as I started off on this journey, as short as it was. :-)

http://www.aphroditesapples.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=42

And I want to thank all of you who have purchased it already - it shot to #5 on AA's Best Seller list already! Wow!

I truly hope all of you enjoy the book. :-)

Hi everyone, if any of you purchased my ebook from Aphrodite's Apples website today but had problems downloading it because of their bandwith being exceeded, PLEASE let me know ASAP.

Thanks and so sorry for the problem!
