Another review for my ebook!

I've just received another review for my ebook, Burnin' for You, from the Whipped Cream site, and I'm thrilled with this one. Not just because it got 4 out of 5 cherries, but because the reviewer brought up something that I was struggling with when writing the story. I was afraid that my technical knowledge of the fire department would overshadow or overpower the actual plot of the story, or the characters. Because I've read many a story where it's extremely obvious that the author has personal knowledge of their subject matter and goes on and on in excruciating detail. So much so that it's actually turned me off and I've stopped reading.

So to have this reviewer be the first to bring this up, that I did a good job balancing both the technical stuff and the character aspects of the story puts a huge smile on my face. :-)

Burnin' For You by Jamie Lynn Miller
Dark Roast Press
Contemporary
Short Story, M/M
Review by Daisy

Lucas Taylor is a hard-working New York City fireman at Station 127, dedicated to his job,
even though it has brought him heartrending tragedy - the loss of his lover, Ryan, in an explosion a year ago.

Evan Singer is the new guy in town, a paramedic transferred into Station 127 from San Antonio,
and he sets his eyes on Lucas from the get-go.

Neither knowing who the other is, their first meeting is explosive, a night of passion and desire
that awakens something inside Lucas he never thought he'd feel again.

But when Lucas discovers that Evan is a paramedic, it all comes crashing down. For despite the
feelings he has for Evan, Lucas has vowed to never again get involved with someone on the job,
after losing Ryan to it.

Can Evan convince Lucas to open up his heart and take a chance on love again, despite who Evan is?

I love firefighter stories, so I had high hopes for Burnin’ For You. Luckily, it didn’t disappoint. Ms. Miller
writes both the technical stuff the characters have to do as part of their jobs and the heartwrenching
emotions they feel as the relationship between Lucas and Evan develops equally well. If the balance
between those two story elements was weighted on one side or the other, the story as a whole would
have been greatly diminished.

At the beginning of the story, Lucas is dealing with the anniversary of his lover’s death. In his emotionally
ragged state, he meets Evan and decides to spend the night with him, thinking that it might ease his
loneliness. At least for a little while. They form a bond – a little nugget of something more than just the
physical. But Lucas’ fears are a huge obstacle to a relationship. This plot line has been used a lot in
traditional romance in the past, but Miller freshens it up by exploring it with a homosexual pair.

Lucas and Evan’s co-workers are all really understanding – they give the couple both emotional and
physical space – I think it might have been more realistic, though, had at least one person had not
been comfortable with the idea of the two of them together. Gay couples have to deal with that all the time.
I feel that there may have been a missed opportunity for more conflict there. Especially since, at times,
it seems as though some of the existing conflict could have been resolved with a simple heart-to-heart
conversation.

Miller hits a home run with the tension and action at the end, though. It’s difficult to describe without
spoilers, but the emotional and technical balance as well as the quick pace keeps you flipping the
pages until the resolution.

I would recommend Burnin’ for You to fans of firefighter romance, GLBT fiction, and erotic romantic
suspense.

It was quite a weekend for me, getting two amazing reviews. :-) Here's the next one, from Dark Diva Reviews, giving Burnin' for You five out of five stars!

Burning For You by Jamie Lynn Miller

Lucas Taylor is a hard-working New York City fireman at Station 127, dedicated to his job, even though it has brought him heartrending tragedy - the loss of his lover, Ryan, in an explosion a year ago.

Evan Singer is the new guy in town, a paramedic transferred into Station 127 from San Antonio, and he sets his eyes on Lucas from the get-go.

Review:

Lucas is in a bar one Saturday night, drinking heavily when Evan, a hot, hunky guy gives him the eye. In an effort to stave off the depression he has felt since the death of his lover Ryan, Lucas goes home with Evan. After a night of scorching sex, Lucas, tormented over the feeling that he has cheated on his dead lover, vows never to see Evan again...except there is something there between these two men and the next day, Lucas calls Evan. Both Texan born, the two men chat easily, recognizing many similarities in upbringing and outlooks on life.

Evan agrees to take things slow since it's obvious that Lucas is recovering from the loss of his lover.
Lucas's new shot at love however quickly crashes and burns on his first day back at work as a New York fireman. He is introduced to Station 127's new paramedic...Evan. Lucas dumps Evan immediately, telling him they cannot be together. Ryan was a fireman and his death on the job continues to haunt Lucas. He will not allow himself to love again...or can Evan prove that sometimes love on the job is just what a hungry heart requires?

Jamie Lynn Miller blends blistering M/M sex scenes with a truly tender love story that is emotional and real. The firehouse scenes and three action-packed, edge of your seat incidents Station 127 handles are just amazing. Miller writes these scenes as deftly as she does the often emotionally bruising love scenes in which Lucas struggles with the idea opening his heart once again.

Considering that all this is stuffed into sixty pages is staggering. Lucas and Evan come across as wonderful men and the interaction with the secondary characters is convincing and compelling.
This reviewer is burning for the next Jamie Lynn Miller book.

MR Review
Burnin' for You
by Jamie Lynn Miller

A chance meeting throws two firefighters together, and they give in to passion. Lucas is still mourning his lover's death, and he thinks his night with Evan is just stress relief. But when they find out they have to work closely in the fire station, they can't deny their true feelings.

First of all, firemen are hot (excuse the pun). Gay firemen? Even hotter. So I was looking forward to reading this one, and the author didn't disappoint. Hot sex, unwilling emotions, angst, adventure…Burning for You has it all. It's short, but long enough for plenty of action and back-story, and the men come to life. The writing is near perfect as well and I can't wait to read more from Jamie Lynn Miller.
